Tree Cost Sharing Program

The Village operates a tree cost share program which supports the planting of trees in the public right-of-way (ROW). This program is offered on a first come, first served basis. Once budgeted funding for this program is exhausted, the program is suspended until the beginning of the next fiscal year. With this program, the Village will reimburse up to $100 for eligible purchases and installation. Below are the required steps to participate in this program. If you have any questions, please contact Public Works at (217) 359-0655.

  • Obtain a copy of our Approved Species List for ROW plantings.
  • Having selected an approved species, complete and return the application listing the quantity and species of trees desired. Remember, trees must be planted no closer than 40' from adjacent trees in the ROW and must not infringe upon the defined Visibility Triangle at street and sidewalk intersections.
  • Once Public Works staff inspects the site and approves the application, you may continue with the purchase and installation of the tree(s) as described on the approved application.
  • Once installation has occurred, it is your responsibility to retain your receipt and send a copy of it to Public Works staff.
  • Staff will then re-inspect the installation to ensure conformity to the application and with applicable Village codes.
  • Once Village staff confirms the proper installation of the eligible tree(s), the Village will process the applicable reimbursement.
